Radio-Heads?

DrColler Faith

I know there is a popular band out there by this name, but this post is not about music or a band.

This post is a follow up on yesterday’s commentary on our “cold-blooded souls.” (That sounds kind of ominous, doesn’t it?) 🙂

I wrote about how our thoughts, will and emotions are highly influenced by our surrounding environments. No doubt most of you recognize this to be true. But there’s another analogy I’d like to use which takes this a step further.

Some people have described our spirits like radios that can pick up and tune in to different spiritual frequencies.

Sounds weird, eh?

But what if it’s true?

The Bible tells countless stories of people who had different spiritual gifts and who demonstrated supernatural activities.

In particular, the prophets like Elijah and Elisha seem to ‘hear’ or ‘see’ into the heavenly realms.

  • Elisha supernaturally eavesdrops on a king while he is in his bedroom. (2 Kings 6:12)
  • In the same story, Elisha ‘sees’ that the armies of God are greater than those who are against him. (2 Kings 6:16)
  • Elijah hears from God and predicts when a drought will start and end. (1 Kings 17 & 18)

Of course, Elijah and Elisha were pretty exceptional people, but James 5:17 says that “Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.”

It would seem that God is telling us that even we can ‘tune in’ to His Spirit.

I’m not talking about channeling or any self-seeking occultist thing.

But I am suggesting that our spirits are sensitive to ‘spiritual broadcasts’ – whether we like it or want it or are even aware of it.

Some people choose to tune in to some pretty dark and scary frequencies.

Many are likely naive or ignorant of this phenomenon and so they go about their day without any awareness of the spiritual activity going on all around them.

I would encourage us to actively tune in to the Lord’s radio frequency.

How?

Probably the best way to start is to just tune yourself to thanksgiving and praise. After all, we …

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise

Psalm 100:4

When someone or something ‘bumps your knob’ and tries to change your channel, say, “no, thank you. I was listening to that,” and tune back in.

I think the more we stay tuned in, the more we will hear.
