Beware the Breakfast Buffet!
When you go to a breakfast buffet, what do you put on your plate?
My wife and I recently stayed at a hotel with a complimentary breakfast buffet. I generally love breakfast buffets, but I’m always a bit uneasy about what they’re serving until I see it.
See, most breakfast buffets are extremely carb and sugar-heavy. So you have to be very careful with what you put on your plate.
I suspect that many people don’t realize this or maybe even know how the foods affect their bodies.
In fact, I often look around at the food that people – and especially children – are eating, and it makes me cringe!
Some kids are eating a doughnut, monkey bread, waffles with syrup and sprinkles, and a bowl of fruitloops. Oh, and a big glass of orange juice to wash it all down!
You might as well be serving them cake, ice cream, and Mountain Dew for breakfast! And I’m not exaggerating at all! They’re basically the same thing.
Truly, this is the sort of thing that is causing the obesity/diabetes epidemic in our country – and among our children!
When I eat at these buffets, I might pick one or maybe two carbs, and the rest is protein.
If they have any veggies (which they almost never do), then I’d definitely eat them, too.
So, I’d get the eggs, sausage/bacon, and perhaps a slice of toast and a small portion of potatoes. I might have some fruit as well.
I almost never eat a doughnut, waffles, monkey bread, or sugar cereal.
If I drink juice, I dilute it half/half with water. But generally, I only drink water and black coffee.
Sometimes oatmeal with nuts and berries is a decent option as well.
Really, you’ve got to stay away from all the sugars.
And don’t let your kids do it either!!
Ok, so, there you go.
I hope that was helpful to you.
