Don’t Let Inspiration Pass You By

DrColler Productivity

We’ve all had moments of sudden inspiration where we have a thought and go, “wow! that’s a great thought!”

Maybe it’s a business idea. Perhaps it’s a creative solution to a problem. It could be something that you need to start doing or a conversation that would really help a relationship.

Whatever it is, it stops you in your tracks and forces you to consider it.

I personally think that the Holy Spirit is behind a lot of these particularly insightful moments.

Whether or not you agree, I think we all recognize that they don’t come around all that often.

Some seasons may have more inspiration than others, but most of us don’t live in a perpetual state of “aha!” moments.

Yet, despite the tremendous value of such insight, it’s all pretty much worthless unless it is paired with discipline.

For the purpose of this post, I’m not even talking about the discipline required to carry out the task.

We just need to write it down!

I know that I’ve forfeited many great ideas because when it hit me, I thought, “Wow, that was such a great idea… there’s no way I could forget it!”

Yeah, right.

Totally gone.

Perhaps some of them do come back. But my point is that whenever you have one of these great ideas, have the discipline to simply write it down – on the spot.

We pretty much all have smartphones now, so text yourself or use a note-taking app and document it.

Even if you never end up acting on it, at least you aren’t completely disregarding the inspiration.

And, furthermore, as I suggested above, if the Lord is actually giving you the insight, it seems that He’d be a bit more apt to keep it coming if you took it halfway serious when He offered it to you! (At least that’s how I’ve come to think of it.)
