Personalize Your Praise
Lately I’ve been thinking about something that has had a profound impact on my relationship with God.
I love to be in corporate worship settings – singing praises with others.
There is something really glorious and beautiful about it.
In fact, I cannot wait until that day when every knee will bow and every tongue confesses that Jesus is Lord.
That will be an awesome day.
Because finally we will be totally at peace with Him and with each other – when the things of Earth grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.
Anyway, I’m derailing a bit.
Corporate worship is absolutely wonderful – singing and declaring things like…
Worthy is our God!
Great is our God!
God is so good!
He is worthy of praise!
But there is a level of intimacy to be had when you personalize your praises.
It is one thing to sing or pray, “God, you are so good.”
It is a different thing to pray, “God, you are so good to me.“
“You are worthy of all my praise.”
“You are great and marvelous to me.“
It somehow becomes pretty difficult to be envious, angry, or caught up in fear when you declare these thing in a personal way.
I know that for me, the more I say “God, you are so good to me,” the more I see how good He really is.
So the more I have to say it!
I am to a place where I am absolutely astounded by how good He has been to me.
It’s like it grows deeper and deeper. It demands different language even, but all I can do is add emphasis words like “God, you are so, so, so – so very, very, very good … you are so very good to me.”
Honestly, I can’t even write this without feeling emotional.
I hope you can come to the same place.
I know that personalizing my praise has really made a difference.
